- Gas Turbine AlliedSignal ASE 40
- 1.1 General Description: The AlliedSignal gas turbine type ASE 40 is a cold-end drive engine designed for stationary applications. The gas turbine incorporates innovative aerospace technologies which have been well proven with the other members of the AlliedSignal engine family. Over 20.000 AlliedSignal gas turbine have accomplished more than 70 million hours of world-wide operation, providing excellent reliability in demanding aerospace and industrial environments. The ASE 40 gas turbine has cold start ability allows it to reach maximum power within 45 seconds after starting. The Gas turbine when employed in stationary applications, is the basis of a very compact generating set making it the perfect solution for co-generation applications where the gas turbine module and heat recovery equipment need to be integrated in the limited space of existing plants (e.g. boiler houses).
- 1.2 Design features: The ASE 40 gas turbine comprises the following main components: inlet housing, accessory gearbox, gas producer module, combustor, power turbine. The gas turbines inlet housing forms the main supporting structure and has 4 pads for pedestal mounting. All other main components are supported by the inlet housing. Mounted to the underside of the inlet housing is the accessory gearbox which provides vertical power take-offs for auxiliaries and a connection for the starter motor. The gas producer module consists of the compressor with 7 axial and 1 centrifugal stages and is driven by a two-stage axial turbine. The accessory gear box is driven by the gas generator rotating group thorough bevel gears. The combustor is of the reverse flow annular chamber design utilising 28 fuel nozzles and providing compactness, high efficiency and low emissions. The hot end of the engine consists of a two-stage axial flow power turbine and related support housing. The power shaft runs coaxially through the compressor rotor to the front end of the gas turbine where the power take-off is located.
- Gearbox and Coupling shaft: Single epicyclic gear for flange mounting to the generator. Reduction of the power turbine speed down to 1500 rpm for 50 Hz applications. The power take-off of the turbine is connected to the gearbox via a high speed shaft with membrane type flexible coupling and crowned spline connection to the gear.
- Generator: Air-cooled, brushless, synchronous medium voltage alternator in accordance with IEC 34, equipped with two sleeve bearings, construction type B3, protection class IP 23, insulation class F, temperature rise acc. to class B. with the following features: bearing temperature monitoring equipment, external lube oil supply for the bearings (common with gear box lube oil system), winding temperature monitoring equipment, triple current transformers for measuring, protection and differential protection, electronic three function voltage regulator for parallel to the grid operation, anti-condensation heating,
- Generating set: The gas turbine and the alternator / gearbox unit are rigidly mounted and aligned on a common base plate.
- Exhaust system: Exhaust diffuser tailpipe in stainless steel, compensator and counter flange for connection to the external exhaust system (heat recovery unit, silencer or stack); The diffuser is connected to the soundproof enclosure with a flexible expansion joint.
- Fuel system: Pipework internal to the module including gas fuel regulating valve, shut-off valves and final filter. Flange connection to the customer gas supply system.
- Combustion air system: 2 stage air cleaner acc. to class EU4 and EU7 mounted in the upper part of the soundproof enclosure including anti-icing flap in the inlet air ducting, compensator between filter housing and inlet plenum and stainless steel inlet plenum designed for optimum air flow to the gas turbine compressor.
- Start system: Hydraulic starter motor mounted on the auxiliary gearbox of the gas turbine. The starter motor is driven an hydraulic oil system internal to the module with tank, electrical driven hydraulic oil pump, valves and piping.
- Lube oil system for gear box and alternator bearings: Lube oil system including immersion type pump, oil cooler (air/oil), oil filter, temperature control valve, pressure and level monitoring, air/oil separator and preheater, completely mounted in the module.
- Lube oil system for turbine: Lube oil system including tank, oil pumps, oil cooler (oil/oil), oil cleaner, pressure and level monitoring, completely mounted in the module.
- Compressor Washing System (Off-line): Wash water injectors mounted on the engine, flexible hose for connection to an mobile wash skid equipped with pump and tanks for wash solvent and water.
- Soundproof enclosure: Soundproof enclosure for noise attenuation to 85 dB (A) at 1m distance of the module, including maintenance access doors, Module cooling air ducting (inlet/outlet) incl. filter, fans, silencers and motor driven flaps, Air ducting for oil cooler incl. Fan, silencer and filter, Integrated combustion air cleaner housing (see also Chapter 7), Outlet air bypass duct for anti-icing, Noise attenuation to 75 dB (A) at 1m available on demand.
- Safety: The enclosure is equipped with an automatic fire protection and gas detection system, including CO2 fire extinguishing system with bottles, Fire detection system equipped with temperature and flame sensors, Gas detection system with gas sensors. The detection of gas or fire in the module automatically generates an immediate emergency shutdown, closing the external fuel shut-off valves.
- Controls and Auxiliaries: Control panel for installation near to the module equipped with PLC and local man / machine interface panel mounted display with the following functions: Monitoring of all relevant parameters of the engine and the module, generating alarms and shutdowns, Interfacing to the plant security chain (e.g. heat recovery system), Start and stop sequence of the engine, Control of all auxiliaries of scope of supply, Electronic speed- and output governor, Vibration monitoring on turbine and gearbox, Display of all values and parameters, Serial interface port for connection to a superior control system, Possibility for connection of a modern system for remote control,
- Documentation: Two sets of manuals in English language for the scope of supply is available.
- Testing and Acceptance: The main components are factory tested and provided with approval certificates by the suppliers.
